Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

Descriptions in draft of approximately 650 medieval manuscripts selected from the collection at Cambridge University Library, produced by H.L. Pink between 1948 and 1970 and R.A.B. Mynors between 1948 and 1953.

Following the abandonment of plans to publish draft descriptions of University Library manuscripts that had been prepared by M.R. James between 1926 and 1930 (see UA ULIB/7/3/74), H.L. Pink was tasked with updating and preparing James’s notes for publication. Promoted to Assistant Under-Librarian in June 1947, Pink began work in the Department of Manuscripts in October that year. Following a brief stint with the post-medieval manuscripts, he began work on revising James’s descriptions of the Additional manuscripts in 1948. Pink followed a template prepared by R.A.B. Mynors (then a Library Syndic), who also contributed a number of descriptions himself before his return to Oxford in 1953. By this time, Pink appears to have begun work on manuscripts within the Two-Letter classmark sequence, on which he worked until his retirement in 1970.
