Biographical / Historical
The Local Examinations Syndicate was established in 1886 as the successor body to the Non-Gremial Syndicate, established in 1862, to administer examinations for people who were not members of the University and to inspect schools, with the aim of raising standards in education. Gremial: a resident full member of the University.

The minutes were transferred to the University Archives on long-term loan by the Local Examinations Syndicate in June 1976.
