Biographical / Historical

The Financial Board was established in 1882 and presided over by the Secretary of the Financial Board (from 1926 renamed the University Treasurer). At its foundation, the Financial Board assumed the functions of the University Property Syndicate responsible, inter alia, for accounting, budgeting, controlling investments, and property management. The Board evolved into the Finance Committee, a Committee of the Council, in October 1994 as a result of the recommendations of the Wass Syndicate. The office of Treasurer was abolished in 2004 and its decision-making functions transferred to the Vice-Chancellor. Administrative functions, including secretaryship of the Finance Committee, passed to the Registrary.
