Scope and Contents
The papers include, variously: copy minutes of the Standing Advisory Committee on Honorary Degrees; correspondence in support of candidates; correspondence relating to arrangements for the Congregations at which the degrees are conferred and such associated events as lunches, visits and entertainments, lists of invitees, press releases, drafts of orations and orders of proceedings, guides for officiating staff, Secretary's concluding evaluation reports.

Conditions Governing Access
The University Archives are generally freely available to the holder of a reader's ticket for the Manuscripts Reading Room at Cambridge University Library, West Road, Cambridge CB3 9DR. The Senate House Syndicate is the body responsible for organising the Congregations at which honorary degrees are conferred, once the Advisory Committee on Honorary Degrees has chosen the honorands and their awards have been graced.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The papers were transferred in batches, not chronological, chiefly from the Vice-Chancellor's office, in 2000, 2002-3, 2005, 2008, 2013. The 2013 transfer necessitated a complete renumbering.
General
The online catalogue was completed in January and emended in August 2006, December 2008 and June 2014..
