Biographical / Historical

The Council of the School of Arts and Humanities (initially named the Interfaculty Committee for Arts and Humanities) was established in 1984, assuming formal responsibility for resource allocation and coordination across arts and humanities institutions, previously held by Interfaculty Committee A. The committee had operated since 1974 in an informal capacity, advising the General Board of the Faculties on such matters as requests to fill vacant offices, statements of new needs, proposals for temporary upgrading of graduate offices, and distribution of staff resources. The Interfaculty Committee for Arts and Humanities changed its name to the Council for the School of Arts and Humanities in 1994. For further information on the faculties and other institutions in the School, see
