Scope and Contents
This roll contains a second formal heading on membrane 2: Pleas in the Court of record at Wisbech before James Montagu. There is no gaol delivery.
- 1r. Final concord: Thomas Sumpter, Henry Knowles, Charles Gerbow and William [Flether], plaintiffs, and John King, gentleman, and Mary, his wife, William Hodson and Anne, his wife, and James Brew and Alice, his wife, defendants, relating to 60 acres of land with appurtenances in Leverington Parson’s Drove Fen and Leverington.
- 1v. Final concord: Charles Gerbow, plaintiff, and Adam Denison and Eleanor, his wife, defendants, relating to 26 acres of land with appurtenances in Leverington Parson’s Drove Fen.
- 2r. John Oudar of Leverington Parson’s Drove, husbandman, answered William Hagings, alias Dodingham, in an action of debt of 12 pounds, 18 shillings and eight pence in an action of account, 5 Mar. 1699 at Wisbech. Oudar fined; to pay costs and damages.
- 2v. Nicholas Wenham of Sutton, butcher, answered Robert Patterson and Simon Staughton in an action of debt of ten pounds relating to a bond of obligation of 23 Apr. 1698 at Ely. The entry is incomplete.
- 3r. Benjamin Castle of Freckenham, Suffolk, cleric, answered Thomas Grundy in an action of trespass on the case that on 1 Mar. 1699 he slandered Grundy at Ely by publicly saying, ‘Mister Grundy, you are a perjured person.’ The entry is incomplete.
- 3v. Richard Wool of Outwell, Norfolk, hemp-dresser, answered Thomas Osbourne in an action of trespass on the case relating to a debt of 60 shillings for diverse goods and wares, 18 oct. 1696 at Ely. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.
- 4r. John Atkin of Ely, husbandman, answered Bastwick Johnson, gentleman, in an action of debt of eight pounds relating to a bond of obligation of 5 Dec. 1698 at Ely. The entry is incomplete.
- 4v. Henry Hemont of Whittlesey, miller, answered Samuel Speechlye in an action of trespass that on 1 Oct. 1698 his livestock trampled and overgrazed the grass growing in Speechlye’s close, comprising half an acre of marsh land called the Running Common at King’s Delph, Whittlesey, and that he took and carried away a cart-load of hay. Pled not guilty; to proceed to the next session.
- 5r. Robert Conner of March, labourer, answered Elizabeth Gray in an action of trespass that on 11 Sept. 1698 he assaulted Gray at March. Pled not guilty; to proceed to the next session.
- 5v. Edward [? Hiphin] complained against Samuel Buck, an attorney of this court, relating to a sum of material outstanding for labour or work as a blacksmith or ironworker, 20 Mar. 1697 at Wisbech. The entry is incomplete.
- 6r. Theophilus Buckworth, gentleman, an attorney of this court, complained against William Allgood of Wisbech, gentleman, another attorney of this court, relating to a debt of 20 pounds from a bond of obligation of 18 Mar. 1680 at Wisbech. The entry is incomplete.
