Notebook B, July 1837 - Mar. 1838
Scope and Contents
This series of notebooks, labelled 'B', 'C', 'D' and 'E', on transmutation of species were compiled by Charles Darwin following his return from the Beagle voyage in 1837. In notebook 'B' Darwin first attempted to formulate a full theory of evolution. Notebooks 'D' and 'E' started in 1838 and 1839 concentrate on Darwin's thoughts on natural selection.
