Miscellaneous collection of items on the subject of Mahler. Some of the items were sent as enclosures by Jack Diether. See MS Add.10186/5/1/5 for his letters to Cooke.
Contains the following:

1. Two song fragments by Mahler edited by Jack Diether and Richard Woitach (May 1964):
(i) Song Fragment in D Minor [‘Es fiel vom Himmel ein kalter Frost’], (poet unidentified)
(ii) ‘Im wunderschönen Monat Mai’ (Heine)
Note: these two song fragments are mentioned in Diether’s letters to Cooke and were sent with one of them. They also seem to be the items written about by Diether in 'Chord & Discord' 1969.

2. Carbon typescript of obituary and interview with Bruno Walter published in 'Chicago Sun Times', 25 Feb 1962 annotated with a note by Jack Diether

3. Duplicated typescript of 7 pp. of text on ‘die Zehnte Sinfonie’, apparently from Richard Specht’s 1925 book on Mahler

4. Tear-sheet from concert programme, featuring 1 p. of ‘Erinnerungen an Gustav Mahler’ by Klaus Pringsheim.
Note: a biographical note on William Steinberg on the reverse side is annotated with an incredulous query, not appentley in Cooke’s handwriting. Steinberg conducted the performing version of Mahler's Tenth Symphony in New York with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in April 1968.
