Letter from Adams, Walter (Academy Assistance Council, Burlington House, London), 1 Oct. 1933

 Item
Reference Code: GBR/0012/MS Add.7653/1/A/5

Scope and Contents

Writing from the Academic Assistance Council in the Royal Society, Adams sends an agenda for a meeting and writes about the speakers. Austen Chamberlain wants there to be no implication of hostility towards Germany in the speeches and preferably no reference to Germany; Rutherford has also wished to keep the meeting apolitical. The four societies combining in the appeal do not intend the assistance to be solely for refugees from one country as is the case with other societies. No dinner arrangements have yet been made. A draft of the acknowledgement of subscriptions is enclosed and, subject to Rutherford's approval, a facsimile signature stamp for use on this is proposed. Adams apologises for rhetorical phrases previously used.
