Photograph Album - War Service, 1914-1917
Scope and Contents
The album documents HATF's war service with the Royal Army Medical Corps in Flanders, France and Salonika. It begins with the 85th Field Ambulance making preparations at Maresfield Park, East Sussex and includes scenes of a picnic near Maresfield Park with HATF and his young family. The album shows various billets used by HATF and his unit; damage to buildings, particularly in Ypres; the interior of buildings set up for use as field hospitals; the landscape and people of Salonika including scenes of the city and its buildings in the aftermath of the devastating fire in August 1917; the cast of Aladdin performed by the 85th Field Ambulance; the No. 5 Convalescent Depot showing convalescents, machines and exercises for strengthening limbs and joints, and the manufacturing of splints; and the aftermath of the bombing of the 29th General Hospital in Salonika in March 1917. All photographs are captioned.
