Card guessing tests administered by S.G. Soal to Gloria Stewart, 1945-1949

 Series
Reference Code: GBR/0012/MS SPR/56

Scope and Contents

S.G Soal tested many subjects for extra-sensory perception in card guessing trials, and found no evidence of telepathy or clairvoyance. The best results were by Basil Shackleton and Gloria Stewart. Soal retested Shackleton with Kathleen Goldney in 1941-43, when Shackleton seemed to show an impressive ability to guess one or two cards ahead of the object card. It is now generally recognised that Soal altered and faked data, unknown to Goldney.
