Scope and Contents
A copy of a despatch from Harry Parkes to the Governor of Kwangtung Province regarding the appointment of A-li-ke (Rutherford Alcock) to the British Consul at Canton as the replacement for Pao Ling (Sir John Bowring). The despatch is undated, but its contents indicate it originates from c. August 1854. It is in Chinese, with a pencil note in English describing the contents.
