Papers re railways and troops, circa 1885
Scope and Contents
'Estimate of Railways For H[is] E[xcellency] Li Hung Chang': an estimate given in taels per English mile for constructing a single track railway line, including calculations for the cost of lines between Tientsin and Peking or Tungchew [T'ung-chou], and between Tientsin and Taku, undated (1880s?). There is also an undated list of troops under various commands and in various places, in a different hand, with strengths given in ying, and an envelope labelled in Parkes' hand 'Davenport Enclosures'.
