Scope and Contents

A copy of a memorandum by Parkes concerning the admission of foreigners into the interior of Japan, dated Yokohama, 24 July [1873], 8 bifolios, 1 folio and 1 blank bifolio (tied together), including corrections and endorsements in English and French by Charles E. De Long, Fibureio Rodriguez y Muñoz, J[ules?] Berthémy, W.F.H. von Weckherlin, Max von Brandt, Conte Litta, and [Eugene de?] Butzow. The document includes a covering sheet containing a note by Parkes, 25 July [1873], and an appendix by De Long concerning the text of the memorandum. There is also second version of the memorandum, incorporating the corrections, dated Yokohama, 24 July [1873], 5 bifolios.
