Scope and Contents

A folder containing a manuscript table of contents followed by nine sets of press cuttings glued to the pages, 23 folios (sewn together), including blanks and the cover. The cuttings are as follows:

'Translation from the Kioto Gazette of March, 1868. Constitution of the Mikado's Government.'

'Translation from the Kioto Government Gazette of March 1868. Memorial to the Daijokan': a memorial of 29 February 1868, with six signatories.

'Translation from the Kioto Gazette of March, 1868': the text of a speech by the Emperor Meiji to the Daimyos on 21 March 1868.

'Translation from the Kioto Government Gazette of March, 1868': the text of a statement concerning Japan's relations with foreign powers, issued by the officers of the Japanese government, 10 March 1868.

'Translation from the Kioto Gazette No. 11. Reports from Yedo': an account of events in Yedo and elsewhere, 26 April-3 May 1868.

'Petition presented by the Naval and Military forces of the Tokugawa family' [April-May 1868], with texts of related documents, including a representation signed by Enomoto Idzumi [Enomoto Izumi], 4 May [1868].

Article beginning 'We have received a copy of a most interesting document', incorporating the texts of the Emperor Meiji's ultimatum to the Tokugawa clansmen delivered on 26 [April 1868] and the reply of the Tokugawa retainers.

'Translation. From the Yedo "Home and Foreign News" of May 5th 1868. Memorial of the Prince of Sendai': a memorial of Sendai Chinjo, March 1868, including two loose pieces.

'Translation from a Newspaper published in Yedo, entitled "Home and Foreign News." April 10th, 1868. Memorial of "Okubo Ichiyo" of the Satsuma Clan.'
