Scope and Contents

Papers and a few photographs regarding Captain William Joseph Lawrence of the Indo-China Steam Navigation Co. Ltd:

1. A photograph of S.S. 'Loksang', Swatow, 6 July 1918.

2. A portrait photograph of W.J. Lawrence in uniform, 1936.

3. A photograph of W.J. Lawrence in uniform, 1943.

4. A photocopy of a photograph of W.J. Lawrence at Tientsin, 29 May 1919.

5. A photocopy of a photograph of S.S. 'Fook Sang', Hong Kong, 1921.

6. A photocopy of a document from the Ministry of War Transport identifying Lawrence as a shipwrecked Master who has lost his documents of identity, 18 November 1942.

7. A typescript of Lawrence's record of service, 1916-1943, dated 2 November 1945.

8. A photocopy of the record of service.

9. A photocopy of a covering letter from the Indo-China Steam Navigation Co. Ltd, London, to Captain Lawrence, 2 November 1945, for copies of his Record of Service.

10. A photocopy of a letter from the War Office to Major W.J. Lawrence, Royal Engineers, 25 April 1946, regarding his release from active military duty.

There are also four pieces of modern correspondence between Mrs Marjorie D. Lawrence, widow of W.J. Lawrence, and Henry Keswick, D.S. Middleditch and Alan Reid, 14 May-5 August 1982, regarding W.J. Lawrence's documents.
