Scope and Contents

Undated manuscript notes on British, Chinese and Japanese shipping, including competition between the nations. There are also two printed extracts from published works: Chapter XIII from 'Reconstruction in China', edited by T'ang Leang-li (China Limited Press, 1935), entitled 'Mercantile Marine', and a chapter from the 'Chinese Year Book 1935-1936', pp. 642-672, on shipping. The original envelope was numbered 42, labelled 'Calcutta Pool', and addressed to F.A. Pollock Esq (the label has been retained).
