Scope and Contents

Three printed circulars regarding Gideon Nye and his companies:

A copy of a letter from the artists Henry Peters Gray, Thos. S. Cummings and D. Huntington, New York, to Mr Nye, 16 May 1850, regarding the closure of Nye's gallery and probable removal of his pictures from the country, followed by a 'General testimonial of the principal artists of New York in favor of Mr Nye's collection of paintings', 9 June 1849.

Two printed copies of a letter from Gideon Nye Jr, Canton, to Russell & Co. and James Purdon & Co., Canton, assignees of the estate of Nye Brothers & Co., 12 August 1856, regarding the company's business difficulties, with two copies of a sheet containing the banking account of Nye, Parkin & Co., Canton, for the year 1854, and Nye Brothers & Co., Canton, for 1855.

Two copies of a 'special and last circular' from Nye & Co., Canton, 12 March 1866, announcing the discontinuation of their circular reports.
