 File
Reference Code: GBR/0012/MS JM/L9/13

Scope and Contents

Four pencil sketches attributed to 'Dr Dickson', probably Dr Walter George Dickson, who enjoyed a business relationship with Jardine, Matheson & Co. from circa 1850 to the early 1890s. The largest drawing is of a scene in the Supreme Court of Hong Kong during the trial of nine 'pirates', c. 1857. A number of the figures are identified on the document and in an accompanying typescript note. They include W.H. Alexander, Clerk of the Supreme Court; Daniel Richard Francis Caldwell (1816-1875), Superintendent of the Police Office and Supreme Court Interpreter; Robert Dundas Cay (1807-1888), Registrar of the Supreme Court; Dr W. Home, Assistant Surgeon to the Military Staff; the Hon. John Walter Hulme (1805-1861), Chief Justice of the Supreme Court; and Admiral Sir Henry Keppel (1809-1904). The remaining, smaller, sketches are of the 'Fruit stall in front of Keswicks', featuring the stall and a pedlar girl and pilgrim, dated 21 August 1860; Jardine, Matheson & Co.'s house and godown and the harbour, undated; and a junk in the harbour, undated.
