Scope and Contents

A small set of originals and copies of letters exchanged between Boustead & Co. Ltd, Singapore; Deacon, Harston & Shenton, Hong Kong; Donaldson & Burkinshaw, Singapore; David Landale, c/o Matheson & Co. Ltd, London; Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong; and Rodyk & Davidson, solicitors and notaries, Singapore, July-August 1923, regarding the sale of Sir R.W.B. Jardine's wharf property at Singapore to the Singapore Harbour Board. The correspondence includes a copy of a letter from Donaldson & Burkinshaw to the Crown agents for the Colonies, Westminster, 13 August 1923, regarding the sale. There is also a set of related documents enclosed with a letter from Rodyk & Davidson to Boustead & Co., 14 August 1923: an agreement for Abubakar, Maharajah of Johore, to lease land and wharf premises at Singapore to Francis Bulkeley Johnson of Jardine, Matheson & Co. for a term of 999 years, Singapore, 9 January 1882; an assignment from Thomas Scott Thomson, executor of Francis Bulkeley Johnson, to Sir Robert Jardine of the leasehold and premises known as 'Jardine's Wharf', Singapore, 30 April 1889; a deed of declaration and disclaimer by Mrs Jane Sophia Bulkeley-Johnson stating that she has no interest in the property, Hong Kong, 13 April 1889; and a form of instructions as to the execution of deeds for registration.
