Scope and Contents

Correspondence and related papers regarding Sir R.W.B. Jardine's land and wharf premises at New Harbour, Singapore (Tanjong Pagar):

1. A letter from Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd, Hong Kong, to Boustead & Co., Singapore, 8 October 1920, enclosing correspondence regarding Jardine's Wharf, mostly between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and its agents Boustead & Co., Singapore, August-October 1905, but also including letters from Deacon, Looker, Deacon & Hartson, solicitors and notaries, Hong Kong, to Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd, 6 October 1920; E.L. Brockman, Acting Colonial Secretary, Straits Settlements, to Boustead & Co., Singapore, 4 August 1905; and Donaldson & Burkinshaw, Singapore (Boustead & Co.'s solicitors), to E.L. Brockman, Colonial Secretary, 23 September 1905.

2. A copy of a telegram from Henry Keswick, Hong Kong, 18 February 1921, recommending the sale of the Tanjong Pagar Property.

3. A telegram from Sir R.W.B. Jardine to David Landale, Matheson & Co. Ltd, approving the suggested negotiations for the sale of the property, 28 February 1921, with a copy of a telegram to Hong Kong of the same date giving notification of Jardine's approval.

4. A copy of an agreement for His Highness Datu Tummungong Diang Ibrahim Sri Maharajah to lease property at New Harbour, Singapore, to Alexander Perceval of Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, for a term of 25 years from 1 October 1856, dated 4 July 1859.

5. A copy of an agreement for His Highness Abubakar, Maharajah of Johore, to lease land and wharf premises at New Harbour, Singapore, to Francis Bulkeley Johnson of Jardine Matheson & Co. for a term of 999 years from 1 October 1881, dated Singapore, 9 January 1882.
