Scope and Contents

Typescript and manuscript correspondence (including press copies) relating primarily to Sir Robert Jardine's property in the East, but also covering the conversion of Jardine, Matheson & Co. into a limited company, J.J.J. Keswick's Trust, Jardine's Wharf and other matters. The letters are from Edinburgh, Hong Kong, London and elsewhere, and the correspondents include Edwin Freshfield, W.J. Gresson, Messrs J.C. & A. Steuart, J.J. Keswick, G.L. Montgomery, C.H. Ross and James Steuart (Sir Robert's Edinburgh solicitor). There are also related documents, including a 'Memorandum of Valuations & Book Values of Sir Robert Jardine's Property Account from 1st May 1901 to 30th April 1908' and an 'Abstract of Sir Robert Jardine's Property Account from 1st May 1907 to 30 April 1908'. The original envelope was labelled 'Sir Robert Jardine's Property Re Partnership Agreement, etc.' (the label has been retained).
