Correspondence re aniline oil, 1951 (with copies of material from 1950)
Scope and Contents
Correspondence and related papers regarding the failure of Jos Weil & Son, London, to fulfil a contract with Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd for the provision of 250 tons of aniline oil, arising from problems between Jos. Weil & Son and its suppliers, Messrs Ciech, Warszawa, Poland, and Chemproha N.V., manufacturing chemists, Zwigndrecht, Holland. Most of the file is comprised of an affidavit of Joseph Weil, senior partner of Jos. Weil & Son, stating his firm's case, 27 August 1951, accompanied by three large bundles of copies of related letters and telegrams exchanged between the interested parties, as well as other correspondents, 1950-1951, labelled 'J.W.1', 'J.W.2' and 'J.W.3'. The remaining papers include a letter from Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, to the Import Department, Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, 21 September 1951, and a summary of the case. A few documents are in Chinese. The folder is labelled 'Aniline Oil'.
