Scope and Contents
The ring-binder is labelled '1950/51 Japan' and '10. Japan', and is divided into three sections:
1. Silk: correspondence (including telegrams and extracts of letters) between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, Jardine Matheson, Tokyo, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, with related letters and papers, including correspondence of Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd with Durant, Bevan & Co. Ltd, Manchester, and Frank W. Kunze Co. Ltd, New York, 3 January 1950-17 October 1951.
2. Tea: correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, Jardine Matheson, Tokyo, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, 26 April-16 August 1950, with a private tea memorandum from the Tea Department, Jardine Matheson, Yokohama, to F.A. Pollock, 7 January 1950, and an extract from a telephone conversation between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong and Tokyo, 23 August 1950.
3. Yokohama Store: correspondence (including extracts of letters) between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, Jardine Matheson, Kobe, Jardine Matheson, Tokyo, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, 22 June 1950-23 July 1951, with a memorandum from M.L. Railton regarding Jardine, Matheson & Co.'s Japan Export Store in Yokohama, 4 July 1950.
