Scope and Contents

The ring-binder is labelled '1950/51: Japan' and '2. Japan', and is divided into five sections:

1. General: correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, Jardine Matheson, Tokyo, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, 22 May 1950-31 December 1951, with a letter from Y. Hanawa to W.J. Keswick, London, 20 October 1950, and an article entitled 'Lion's Headache' by Y. Iwai, President, Iwai & Co., from the 'Oriental Economist', Japanese edition, 1 December 1951.

2. Registration of Jardine, Matheson & Co. (Japan) Ltd: correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, Jardine Matheson, Tokyo, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, with related letters, 29 March-18 December 1950.

3. Future Policy: semi-official letters no. 623 from W.J. Keswick, London, to D.F. Landale, Hong Kong, 21 December 1949, and no. 3 from Landale to Keswick, 3 January 1950.

4. Agencies: three pieces of correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, Jardine Matheson, Tokyo, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, 14 April-3 May 1950, with two copies of a list of firms and manufacturers represented by Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd in Japan.

5. Minutes of Meeting, Kobe: semi-official letter no. 102 from F.A. Pollock, Tokyo, to D.F. Landale, Hong Kong, 13 March 1950, enclosing the minutes of a meeting between F.A. Pollock, R. Corbett and A.D. Angus in Kobe on 23 February 1950, dated 24 February 1950.

Loose in the ring-binder is a printed 'Report on Japan' by Daniel Duxbury ('A series of articles which appeared in The Financial Times April, 1951').
