Scope and Contents
The ring-binder is labelled '1952/53 Exports Switch Operations and Silk' and '8. Exports', and is divided into two sections:
1. Silk: semi-official letters no. 123 from Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, to Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and no. 133 from Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, to Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, 17 October 1953, with related papers, including a letter from Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, to Morel-Journel & Cie, Lyons, 15 September 1953, and a reply of 22 September 1953, and two memoranda regarding Morel-Journel & Cie and silk.
2. Switch Operations: correspondence (including telegrams and extracts of letters) between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, Jardine Matheson, Tokyo, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, with related letters and papers, including extracts from telephone conversations of Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, with Jardine Matheson, Tokyo, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London; a report on a visit by R. Shoppee to Holland and Germany of 17-23 May 1953; and memoranda regarding switch transactions, 5 August 1952-31 December 1953.
