Scope and Contents
The ring-binder is labelled '1950/51 Silk (1)' and '9. Exports', and is divided into five sections:
1. General: correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, and Balfour, Guthrie & Co. Ltd, New York, with extracts from telephone conversations between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong and Shanghai, 31 January-22 November 1950. There is also a letter from Frank W. Kunze Co. Inc., New York, to Max G. Potter, Jardine Matheson, Yokohama, 10 August 1950, and price comparisons of Japan and Chinese raw silk.
2. S.K. Vong - Waste Silk Compradore: three pieces of correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong and Shanghai, 7 January-17 May 1950.
3. H.T. Gaddum & Co. Ltd (Manchester) re Chunking Laps: correspondence (including extracts of letters) between Jardine Matheson, Canton, Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, 5 August 1950-24 January 1951.
4. Bodmer & Co Ltd (Zurich): correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, Jardine Matheson, Tokyo, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, with two letters from E.O. Britton, Durant, Bevan & Co. Ltd, Manchester, to W.E. Drummond Smith, Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, 4 September-18 October 1950.
5. Paolino Gerli (New York): correspondence (including telegrams) between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, Jardine Matheson, Tokyo, and Balfour, Guthrie & Co. Ltd, New York, with extracts from telephone conversations between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong and Shanghai, 22 May-14 December 1950. There is also a letter from R. Plattner, Silk Department, Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, to Paolino Gerli, Gerli & Co. Inc., New York, 22 May 1950.
