Copies of letters from correspondents at Hong Kong, Macao, Toonkoo Bay and Whampoa to B.A. Barretto and James Ryan, Canton (members of Jardine, Matheson & Co.). The authors include William Sprott Boyd; David Cushman; A. Furdoonjee; Gribble, Hughes & Co.; Bomanjee Hasonjee; Framjee Jamsetjee; Jardine Matheson, Toonkoo; Andres Molbye; Thomas Podé [William Sprott Boyd]; Heerjeebhoy Rustomjee; John Shillaber; and Santiago Thomasen [pseudonym of Sir James Matheson]. There are also related accounts and a few letters to other individuals, including Captain Burd and John Shillaber.
