Scope and Contents
Sir Thomas Gage, MS volume, The butterflies of Europe with an attempt to describe them according to the system of Ochsenheimer. Annotated in another hand 'This work was begun by Sir Thomas Gage at Naples in 1819. Some of the drawings were finished at Rome a few days before his death in December 1820'. Gage had access to the collection of 'Mr. Mathais Professor of Sculpture at Dresden then residing at Rome', which was later sold to 'the public museum of Rome'.
