Notebook recording Bateson and Punnett's experiments with sweet pea crosses at the farm in 1910.

Records are paginated 1-40, followed by a long run of blank pages. There are further notes at the back of the notebook [pp ii(v)-iii] and rough plans showing the layout of the plant beds at the farm [pp iv(v)-v(r)].

The general format of the record is that the parents are recorded as numbers with a superscript or sometimes as a named variety. Since sweet peas can be selfed, some crosses have only a single parent. The date of sowing and the date of planting out are recorded, together with other observations on the plants such as colour, height and petal form.

This notebook contains the first instance where the term 'F1' is used to denote the first finial generation [page 1]. Experiments were being carried out on a bigger scale and more progeny were being scored (150-200 per cross in some cases).
