Poultry breeding notebook 1909-1910 [unlabelled], Jan. 1909 - Aug. 1911
Scope and Contents
Laboratory notebook containing records for poultry breeding lines hatched in 1909 and 1910.
The notebook begins with records for chicks which hatched between February and December 1909, labelled W 1-338 [pp.1-156]. Chicks hatched between April and May 1910 then begin on [page 157r] with a new numbering sequence, W 1-144.
Entries for each bird include notes on colour, comb, and other physical characteristics (e.g. abnormal digits), state of health, and date of death, etc. The record for 1909 birds W 10 [page 5v], W 109 [page 54v], W 176 [page 88r] and W 213 [page 106v] includes drawings of a shoulder joint and feet. A note for 1909 bird W 324 [page 153v] states that it ‘swallowed a glass headed pin’. Entries are in two handwriting styles; the second may be Punnett's.
