Scope and Contents
Laboratory notebook containing records for poultry breeding lines W 1-499 (birds hatched between January and July 1906).
Entries for each bird include notes on colour, comb and other physical characteristics (e.g. deformed digits on feet), state of health, and cause of death or whether transferred elsewhere, etc. Some are marked ‘To be killed – head for museum’ e.g. bird W 187 [page 95r]. Birds W 244 [page 123r] and W 280 [page 141r] are marked ‘IMPT’ (important).
The entry for Bird W 63 [page 33r] includes a note that ‘W.B. bets R.C.P. 1/- [1 shilling] that this bird is a ♂ [male]’.
