Letters to Sassoon about his conversion to the Roman Catholic Church, 1957-1958 (chiefly October to December 1957)
Scope and Contents
Sassoon was received into the Church on 14 August 1957. The series includes letters from Robert Graves, E.M. Forster, Valentine Ackland, Anita Bartle Brackenbury, Sir John Betjeman, Peter Levi, and Sir Sydney Castle Roberts. It also includes letters from old acquaintances and many from fans writing from England, Ireland, Australia and the Bahamas. Originally housed in an envelope marked 'Letters on SS R.C. conversion' (MS Add.9852/9/8/1).
