Scope and Contents
A series of 42 letters sent to Sassoon by friends, family and acquaintances, congratulating him on his engagement. Correspondents include Lady Aberconway, Lady Ethel Desborough, Gladys Deacon (Duchess of Marlborough), society hostess Lady Colefax, poet and writer Henry Newbolt, Susan Owen (mother of Wilfred Owen), and Sassoon's former fiancée Dorothy Hawkins (née Hanmer). Originally housed in an envelope marked 'S.S. Engagement Letters' (MS Add.9852/9/4/1).
