'The Old Century', with items relating to other works, 1935-1938 (circa)
Scope and Contents
'The Old Century & Seven More Years' by Siegfried Sassoon was first published in September 1938 by Faber and Faber, London. This section contains three notebooks and additional sets of loose pages containing notes and handwritten drafts. The drafts contain much of the final text used for the book, with annotations and some additions. Some notebooks in this series also contain material for other prose works: 'The Weald of Youth' (MS Add.9852/7/1/3), 'Memoirs of a Fox-Hunting Man' (MS Add.9852/7/1/4), and 'Siegfried's Journey' (MS Add.9852/7/1/1/4). NB. A note by Sassoon on folio /1v of the notebook at MS Add.9852/7/1/3 explains his writing process for 1936-1937.
