Scope and Contents
The volume is a ruled notebook and mostly comprises notes on war, on politics and on Sassoon's reading, together with transcripts of associated letters.
The volume also includes:
- prose passages: pp. 1-7, pp. 10-12. political views on the conduct of the War; p. 8. 'Looking forward to something'; pp. 21-22. a fair copy of Sassoon's statement against the conduct of the War, together with p. 23. a list of persons the statement was sent to.
- copies of correspondence: p. 13. from a Staff-Captain, begins 'It makes me terrible miserable'; p. 14. from Arnold Bennett, begins 'There is no arguing about the continuance of the war'; p. 19. from a J.C. Quarter Master of the 1st R[oyal] W[elch] F[usiliers], begins 'I hope trouble doesn't strike you'; p. 20. from a ?telegram from an adjutant 3rd R[oyal] W[elch] F[usiliers], 'Join at Litherland immediately' and a copy of Sassoon's response.
