BBC School Television Broadcast: People of the Renaissance, 1960
Scope and Contents
BBC television commenced the broadcast of schools programmes in 1957, initially with only one schools programme shown each afternoon during term time. The Autumn Term of 1960 saw the commencement of morning broadcasts and the introduction of a much more comprehensive selection of BBC schools programming. This included a series of six programmes for sixth forms on 'People of the Renaissance'. A printed pamphlet from BBC Televison Broadcasts 'People of the Renaissance' containing an introductory essay and brief biographies of the six men chosen for discussion for the series of six programmes. The Renaissance programmes were prepared in collaboration with Dr. Leopold D. Ettlinger, then Durning Lawrence Professor of the History of Art, University College, London. The pamphlet is inscribed 'With thanks for your help. Le'. The subjects of the six programmes include Petrarch, Alberti and Federigo da Montefeltro, on which Baxandall might well have helped.
