This subseries includes: rough and general notes (items 1- 6 ); correspondence with helpers and the publisher (7-10); notes and drafts for individual chapters (11-30 ); other papers relating to the book before publication (31-5); correspondence and reviews after publication (36-46). The arrangement of these items mostly follows Meynell's own filing system. Chapter-numbers in this series are those of the printed book, although they are different in early drafts.
