Scope and Contents
Ms. poems: (1) sonnet 'When Alice threw the heavy laurel wreath', marked in a later hand 'p. 21', 1 leaf; (2) 'To the memory of my father', in 2 different versions, the latter marked '2nd edition' and dated 1 Jan. 1903, 2 leaves; (3) various translations from Petrarch, captioned: 'In morte di Madonna Laura Canzone VI' (4 leaves); sonnets numbered XIII-XVI, XVIII, XXIII, XXXIV and LXX (8 leaves); lines beginning 'O you who hear through these thin lines the crying' (3 leaves); lines captioned 'Sestina I in vita' (3 leaves), 'Canzone XI in vita Madonna Laura' (3 leaves), 'In vita LXXXVIII' (1 leaf), 'CLXX In vita Madonna Laura' (1 leaf), '189 in vita' (1 leaf), '4th madrigal' (1 leaf). With all these is the Italian text beginning 'Quando il soave mio fido conforto' (2 leaves numbered 13, 14), and further lines beginning 'Quel che d'odore e di color vincea' (1 leaf). Most of these poems are in the hand of Agnes Tobin.
