Correspondence between Morison and Beatrice Warde, 1925-1966
Scope and Contents
All the letters are from Warde to Morison except those in folder 3. Many undated letters have been dated by Nicolas Barker. A few remaining undated are in folder 13. Folder 1 = 1925-1927, including a letter (photocopy) of Morison to an unidentified correspondent, probably Warde, enclosing part of a type-specimen of Fournier. The letter of 25 Mar. 1925 is reproduced in Barker, plate 4b Folder 2 = 1942, the letter of 20 June 1942 enclosing tear-sheets from magazines Folder 3 = letters from Morison to Warde, 1942-1947 (typescript carbon copies of more or less official Monotype Corporation letters) Folder 4 = 1943, including a letter to "Dearest Folks", supporters of Books Across the Sea Folder 5 = 1947 Folder 6 = 1950-1951, including printed announcements, menus, and a tear sheet arising from her speaking engagements in the United States Folders 7 = 1952-1953 Folder 8 = 1953: her travel diary from the United States, captioned on first page 'B.W. reporting to Mr. Silcock, S.M. and all friends in London'; in 6 parts paginated separately. The first is autograph manuscript with typescript transcription (carbon copy); the other parts are typescript (carbon copy) only. With another typescript (carbon copy) captioned 'Itinerary for Mrs. Warde's visit' Folder 9 = 1955-1957, including a clipping from Printing World for 25 Dec. 1957 Folder 10 = 1960-1961. One letter is a Christmas card with a photograph of her on the front Folder 11 = 1962 Folder 12 = 1963-1966 Folder 13 = undated, including a handwritten mock announcement for 'The dotted line'.
