Scope and Contents

Not all Carter's letters are dated and some are placed approximately in the sequence. Folder 1 = 1942-1950, with a letter from Philip Robinson to Morison dated 4 Aug. 1950 Folder 2 = 1951 Folder 3 = 1952-1953 Folder 4 = 1954, with a copy of a letter from Carter to Philip Hofer dated 27 July 1954 Folder 5 = 1955-1956 Folder 6 = 1957-1958, with a letter from J. Shand to Carter dated 23 Jan. 1957 Folder 7 = 1959-1960, with a galley proof of a review annotated by Carter Folder 8 = 1961, with an offprint of an article by Carter, inscribed to Morison; and a tear-sheet Folder 9 = 1962 Folder 10 = 1963-1964, with a letter from Morison to the Chairman of the General Committee of the Garrick Club dated 23 Jan. 1964; a typescript captioned 'Prefatory note to C. P. Scott's article "Newspaper ideals" by Walter Lippmann' (stat), marked by Morison 'File under John Carter'; and postcards from Charles Batey and Harry Carter to John Carter Folder 11 = 1965-1967, with a printed pamphlet about the John Carter Collection of A. E. Housman, inscribed to Morison.
