Diary of EHW, 1880-1945

 Series
Reference Code: GBR/0012/MS Add.9794/4

Scope and Contents

The entries are in a copy of Daily thoughts selected from the writings of Charles Kingsley (London 1892). The volume contains on right-hand pages a thought for each day (three days per page) varying from one to over twenty lines of prose or poetry; and on left-hand pages a blank space for each day's diary entry. EHW has recorded significant and interesting events in his life and career (and those of his family), one line for each entry, reusing the daily space by inserting the relevant year at the beginning of every entry. He has also noted various thoughts of his own on faith, morality and conduct; and has glued in prayers, postcards, press cuttings, theatre tickets, photographs and other items, dating between 1880 and 1945. At the end is an undated typescript list of places visited abroad, grouped by country.
