 File
Reference Code: GBR/0012/MS Add.9546/5

Scope and Contents

The letter bears annotations by William Makepeace Thackeray rendering the text into verse. With an annotated printed slip [from Thackeray, as editor of 'The Cornhill Magazine'] to Buller. Buller's letter invites Miss Thackeray, her father and her sister to stay at his house Westhorpe at Great Marlow, with details of local transport and of his family. Thackeray's slip jocularly thanks Buller for an article entitled 'an Invitation' and says that he thinks, with alterations, that it may be suitable for publication in 'The Cornhill Magazine'.
