He has consulted [Joseph] Severn about Manchester picture; friends raised 500 guineas for him to paint a large picture, retaining right to present it to a church or institution; Severn agreed with Bowers, altar of Manchester Cathedral was a fit place for it; Severn obtained subscribers' approval; some difficulty about completion: picture rolled up for two years; plan to exhibit it at Royal Institution, Manchester, asking subscriptions to complete; artist has been inconvenienced; Hogarth and Carter have drawn picture of east end of Cathedral with Severn's picture in situ
