From Edward Fitzgerald to J.W. Blakesley, 1881 (Circa)
Scope and Contents
Blakesley's visit to Miss Kemble will please her, because he knew 'Jack', her brother; she maintained her brother Henry's illegitimate son, who against her hopes, has gone on the stage as an 'eccentric comedian'; until two years ago, Fitzgerald had not seen her for twenty years; her loyalty to her family and all who knew them; he did not admire her as an actree or reader 'which is but far aloof from her own opinion of her merits'; Jack's recitation of Hotspur and Alexander's Feast at Bury School 55 years ago was ' the finest piece of declamation that I have ever heard'; he was very handsome then; recollection of Mrs Kemble's renditions
