'Private Journal. I.', 18 June 1904-25 Aug. 1909
Scope and Contents
The following twelve journals were written in blank quarto books. Some have a few letters or other items pasted into them. Volumes 1-8 are each prefaced with a note by ATB that in the event of his death the series is to be handed to Charles Sayle, whose name was scored through and replaced by that of E.J. Dent in 1917. Dent's name is given in the prefatory note to volume 9; no name appears in volume 10; and volumes 11 and 12 refer to 'my executors'. Although volume 12 ends in 1925, eight years before ATB's death, it was almost certainly the last in the series. Most of the entries for 1925 are very brief, with many gaps, and were written on loose sheets, presumably prior to a transfer (never carried out) into the volume.
