Scope and Contents
Welcomes Cambridge's direction to Sir William Mansfield, commander-in-chief, India, that he should 'work in full accord' with Lawrence; 'I have but one object in my present post, [to] try to consolidate and strengthen the hold of England in India by a wise and just administration'; believes that the military must, in the last resort, be subordinate to the civil authority in the subcontinent. Endorsed by Cambridge: 'Answered January 26th [18]65'
