From General Sir William John Codrington, 110 Eaton Square, 31 May 1877
Scope and Contents
'I can assure your Royal Highness that I believe it the proper decision for the Army ... but especially for the Army of the Crimea. If any unfavourable remark is made, the blame can be partially put upon me, but the Army generally will understand the feeling, and the Crimean Army not object to it, when I say that I should, if given the rank in connexion with that Army, have considered myself an intruder upon a domain so fully and honourably occupied by Lord Raglan in association with that Army'.
