Scope and Contents
Includes letters written from Grantchester, Birmingham, Shifnal, Much Wenlock, Ludlow, Boulogne (enclosing a menu, item [11a]), Lille and Happisburgh. In the letter dated 16 Apr. 1906, Bateson discusses his fraught relationship with W.F.R. Weldon and his shock at hearing of his death (item 4 [4:1r]). The letter dated 22 Sep. 1906 includes drawings of sculptures on an altar tomb at Tong Church (item 9 [9:1r]). Many letters include mention of Bateson’s interest in art collecting (e.g. items 15-16).
