Scope and Contents

Volume containing poems for 'Vigils' and some additional poems not published there. Poems are neatly written and illustrated with watercolour abstract and pictorial designs. Marked 'Geoffrey Keynes April 1976'. Contents: Illustrated title page: /1r. Untitled poems, first lines as follows: - 'The weariness of life that has no will': /2r. - 'Birds in the world were waking': /3r. - 'Atlas who bore the world upon his back'; with illustration of Atlas: /4r. - 'Chord – very softly sounded – echoing on': /5r. - 'Two years I lived in lonely room': /6r. - 'In time, as in the garden of a king': /7r. - 'Man, frustrated and sleep-forsaken': /8r. - 'If soul exist, (as some believe)': /9r. - 'Smile on, you newly dead, whose griefless masks': /10r. - 'Again the dead; the dead again demanding': /11r. - 'World slowly understood': /12r. - 'They were not true, those dreams, those story books of youth': /13r. - 'In an empty room upstairs': /14r. - 'Where voices vanish into dream': /17r. Titled poems: - 'Ex-Service': /15r. - 'Revisitation (W.H.R.R.)': /16r. The remainder of the notebook is blank. Foliation is the archivist's. Four related letters are included with the volume (housed in a separate envelope).
